The shop is more than just a place to grab a quick breakfast; it is a space where the dedication to quality ingredients and the patience required for slow-fermented dough are evident in every bite.
The philosophy at Benchwarmers Bagels centers on the belief that a great bagel should be a sensory experience. From the initial crackle of the crust to the dense, chewy interior, every element is considered. What Sets Benchwarmers Bagels Apart
Commitment to Traditional Fermentation: The foundation of their product lies in a patient, multi-day fermentation process. This method allows the natural flavors of the flour to develop fully, resulting in a complex profile that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot replicate.
Focus on Seasonal and Local Ingredients: By working closely with regional producers, the kitchen incorporates fresh, high-quality components into their rotating menu. This approach not only supports the local economy but also ensures that the flavors remain vibrant and reflective of the current season.
A Welcoming Community Hub: Beyond the food, the shop serves as a gathering point for the Raleigh community. The design of the space and the friendly nature of the staff create an environment where neighbors can connect, making it a vital part of the Davie Street corridor.
Artisanal Attention to Detail: Every aspect of the bagel-making process, from the initial mixing of the dough to the precise boiling and baking stages, is handled with care. This meticulous attention to detail ensures consistency and quality that patrons have come to rely on.
The Experience of Authentic Baking
When you visit the location on East Davie Street, you are greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly baked goods that defines the Benchwarmers experience. The shop manages to balance the fast-paced nature of a morning coffee run with the slow-food values of a dedicated bakery. It is this balance that makes the establishment a standout choice for those who value craftsmanship over convenience. The team understands that a bagel is a simple food, but when executed with precision and passion, it becomes a memorable part of one's day.
The interior design reflects a clean, functional aesthetic that keeps the focus squarely on the product. There is an transparency to their operation that invites customers to appreciate the labor involved in creating such a staple food item. By maintaining an open and honest approach to their craft, Benchwarmers Bagels fosters a sense of trust with their clientele. It is a place where the quality of the ingredients speaks for itself, and the passion of the bakers is translated directly into the final product served across the counter.
As the culinary landscape of Raleigh continues to evolve, Benchwarmers Bagels remains a steady presence, grounded in the timeless appeal of a well-made bagel. They demonstrate that success in the food industry does not require complexity, but rather a deep respect for the fundamentals. By focusing on the basics—flour, water, salt, and time—they have created a destination that resonates with anyone who appreciates the simple joy of a high-quality meal. Whether you are stopping by for a classic pairing or looking to try one of their inventive seasonal offerings, the experience is consistently defined by a standard of excellence that is rare to find.

I ordered lunch for my coworker and I, and walking in was pleasant and nice. The employee took my order right away and recommended me an Orange Palmer drink, which was very good. My coworker loved the Latte she got, and our bagels were packed full and delicious!

This place is so overrated and overpriced. If you’ve ever had a bagel from nyc, even just a mid bagel from there this place is a joke. The bagel I got was literally cold and so tough my jaw was hurting after I got done eating it. I had … More

Worst bagel ever!!! They should never have served these burnt bagels!! Besides being burnt they have such a crusty outside. Nowhere close to a NY bagel! Mind you…I don’t even get them toasted. Two bites and ended up in the garbage. … More

Overall Rating: 4.1/10
Located in a pleasant food hall and opening at 5PM, this establishment fails to impress with its pizza, which is their primary menu options.
Service: 5.1/10
The service staff, particularly one lady, was very friendly. The menu presented limited options, and there was no system in place for notifying when orders were ready, aside from calling out names.
Cheese Pizza: 4.1/10
The pizza corner slice featured a very thick and doughy base. The overall taste was dominated by the dough, with the sauce and cheese not contributing much to the flavor profile.
Value: 5.2/10
Priced at $4 for a corner slice, the size of the slice might seem reasonable, but the overall quality and taste of the pizza don't justify the cost, making it less appealing from a value standpoint.

It was a cloudy and warm Sunday morning. We were in the mood for a family breakfast, so decided to come to this Popular Raleigh staple. Upon arrival we were greeted with a huge line of 20+ families. So we decided to just place an order on our phone for pickup. Said 20 min it would be ready, but took closer to 40. Not complaining as the place was slammed so reasonable to wait.
The food itself is very good, but the amount of praise this place gets, not “that” good. But definitely a 4 out of 5. The LOX on an everything bagel is the route I went and glad I did because it was delicious. They also have great coffee options, the nitro cold brew and cappuccino is what we went with and both great.

Their cardamom bun is delicious but the problem is they almost always sell out of them by 9 am. If they are in such high demand, they should make MORE of them on a daily basis. It's annoying when basically every time I come here, they are out.
Their bagels, cream cheese and sandwiches are good but overpriced. Their coffee drinks are usually very good. Their small size of cream cheese is too small for the price as well and the cup isn't even fully filled.

Beautiful place but food has no flavor. I asked for a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and it felt like I was asking for something strange, I asked for ketchup and they do not have ketchup. I asked for salt and pepper they gave it to me in a cup and the salt was the size of small crystals. Butter bagel wasn’t really great either. If you want high class bagels with no flavor this is the place to go, if you want real ny style bagels there’s an amazing spot in Cary called ny bagel and deli ! Soo good the lines are always outside there door!

I had high expectations given that this place is rated as one of the top 25 bagel stores in the USA, but unfortunately, the bagels were a major disappointment. They were noticeably burnt, compromising both flavor and texture, and certainly not worth the premium price. Benchwarmer bagels lacked the soft interior and perfect crust that make a bagel truly exceptional. For the price and reputation, I expected much more. I would hesitate to return or recommend it based on this experience.

Cute new location, but service is less than ideal. I didn’t even get a hello, welcome in just a girl staring at an iPad waiting on my order. and how can you only offer whole milk and oat milk? Some other non-inflammatory options for inclusivity and people with allergies would be nice. Unlikely to return. More

Best bagels in the Triangle area. We got bagel sandwiches and coffee this weekend (which were anmazing) and after eating them went back for a dozen bagels and cream cheese for home. Thank god we got to try their cream cheese…it’s unbelievable! I love the Hotel d’matred and the pecan butterscotch. More

Raleigh’s best kept secret. Who knew the best bagels I’ve ever had would be in Raleigh? The perfect amount of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They season both sides of the bagel so you don’t have to be disappointed in eating the bottom. Great cream cheeses. Great coffee. Great service. Highly recommend! More
